VIDEO: Making a tree out of paper mache
That Handcraft Paper mache is fun for young children. With your help, it is quickly possible to make a tree. The newspaper is torn into pieces, placed in wallpaper paste and mixed well. Little by little, a readily malleable mass emerged. If the mixture is too runny, some paper has to be put in. If it is too tough, you can even out with paste.
Preparation of the tree
- Since a tinkered tree is a somewhat larger object, a little preparatory work is necessary in order to obtain the required stability. The best thing to do is to crumple up newspaper and lay it out the way you want your tree to look in the end.
- Then wrap the trunk and branches with rabbit wire or with plain wire. Now you can bend the branches as you like best.
- If a branch seems a little too short to you, you can lengthen it with newspaper and paper.
Crafting the shell
- You always start to apply the compound in thin layers on the substrate. It is best to let each individual layer dry a little before applying the next one.
- You need to put more layers on the trunk of the tree. The individual branches get their shape when you apply less and less compound from the center outwards, so that they become thinner and thinner. How many layers of the mass you apply is up to you and depends on the size of your tree to be tinkered with.
- When your tree has taken the shape you want, let it dry. This can take a few days.
- After drying, you can work on the tinkered tree with sandpaper. Then give your tree a nice coat of paint with poster paints and you have a very beautiful tree.
