Make the certificate yourself - this applies to the structure of the text

  • There are many occasions to distribute certificates. To the date of birth or club party, baptism or wedding, diploma or anniversary. The document exudes solemnity and documents the festive occasion on which the certificate was awarded.
  • The advantage of a self-made certificate is that it meets your own requirements and you can use the text template for other occasions. You can also design it individually so that its style always matches the celebration.
  • A certificate usually contains the main title 'Certificate'. This is followed by details of what the certificate was issued for, who received it, and the place and date of issue.
  • For the format of the certificate, you can use the DIN A4 format, as this allows you to easily print out the certificate on your own printer. Of course, you can also print beautiful awards in a larger format on your computer. However, this must then be printed out in a special copy and print shop.

Tips for drafting certificates

When you have clarified how big the certificate should be and how to get it on paper, you can start designing it.

  • An important point when designing the certificate is the font size. In order to be able to recognize the text even from a great distance, the main information should be created in a computer font of at least size 16. However, this also means that the certificate should not be overloaded with text.
  • Think carefully about the text that should appear on the certificate. More than ten lines clutter the paper. When choosing a text, it is important to answer the W questions: Who? What? Where? When? As? Whereby? As a rule, the text of the certificate is centered and structured like a pyramid. This means that the number of words increases from top to bottom.
  • When the text question has been clarified, you can start with the graphic design. The certificate should never appear too cheesy and playful, otherwise it will no longer be festive. When choosing the font, you should make sure that it is not too squiggly. Good fonts for documents are for example BibleScr T, Marigold or Papyrus LET.
  • Swirls and ornaments are much better used as text frames. With the graphic function of the writing program you can insert and change shapes in the document. It looks professional if you put beautiful ornaments on the four corners of the paper.
  • You can of course also use these manually. For that you then need either Colours and brushes or pens. Simply draw beautiful squiggles on the paper by hand. Which color and shape you choose depends on your personal taste. However, the following should always apply to a certificate: Less is more!
  • It's easier with the template function. Many writing programs offer certificate templates in which you simply have to insert the text.
  • What should never be missing on a certificate is the date, the place of issue and a signature.
  • Give the certificate in a suitable picture frame. This makes the document look even more formal and not easily kinked. The recipient can then hang it up immediately.
