Preparations for making the basket
When weaving a paper basket, you should precisely follow the steps below:
- To begin with, cut out the bottom of the basket from sturdy cardboard. If you want a round container, you should cut out the bottom in a round shape. If you want an angular container, cut a rectangle or a square out of the box. You can determine the size of the base and thus the basket diameter yourself.
- If you have cut out the bottom, strips of construction paper are glued to it. You can get these strips already cut to size in every handicraft shop. The strips should be at least one centimeter wide.
- Now apply some glue to one side of the floor. Then glue a strip of construction paper across the floor so that the excess paper strip is the same length on both sides.
- Then turn the base further and stick the next strip on so that it is on the outside next to the strip that has already been glued.
- Tape the entire floor in this way. When you are done, the floor will look like a sun with rays.
- Now lay the floor down so that the non-glued side is visible. Also, fold all the strips upwards.

Braiding with paper
After these preparations, you can start braiding:
- To do this, take a loose strip of paper. Glue this to the inside of a vertical strip so that you can braid horizontally with the other strip. You should of course start weaving at the bottom of the basket, i.e. at the bottom.
- Now braid the strip through the vertical strips. This works by alternately placing the strip in front of and behind the vertical strips.
- When you have finished a "round", the strip is cut off and stuck on inconspicuously.
- Carry out steps 7 to 9 until the basket has reached the desired height.
- Finally, the protruding, vertical strips are bent inwards and glued in place.
