Google Earth does not show river names

Google Earth is a practical online globe that is free if the basic functions are used. Via Google Maps you can also call up the image data used in your browser.

Google Earth: How are river names displayed?

• If you want to look specifically at bodies of water via Google Earth, you have to select the following option. Navigate from "Levels", via "Places of interest", "Geographical conditions" to the sub-item "Waters" and mark it.
• Lakes and rivers are now shown on the map with a blue border, provided that the relevant data can be called up in the database. However, there are many gaps, especially when it comes to rivers.
• With a few tricks you can still tap into river names. Simply scroll along the course of the river to the source or towards the mouth, at some point the river is often marked.

• Alternatively, change the height setting. Many features only show up at one level, so you may be able to find the river name that way.

• Also, check the towns along the river for information that suggests its name (e.g. Frankfurt a. Main, Frankfurt / Oder etc.)
• Please note that the data stored in Google Earth is not up-to-date on a daily basis. Most of the data is between one and three years old, but it may be up to ten years old.
• Basically, the images are of good quality even in rural areas, the resolution is 15 square meters per pixel. In large cities, the resolution is usually much better, so that not only houses and streets, but also cars and people can be seen in great detail.

For private use you can pictures from Google Earth if you correctly specify the image source. Approval must be obtained for commercial use.
