  • Before you start building your own solar collectors, decide on their area of ​​application. The possibility of using a thermal solar system depends on the collector that is suitable for it. The collectors work either with air or with liquid as a heat transfer medium.
  • Factory-made solar collectors can be obtained from specialist dealers. If you want to build solar collectors yourself, you can get the material for it in your local hardware store. With a few "ingredients" you can then create a simple collector yourself. You can use this to heat up water in your garden, for example.

This is how you can build it yourself

  1. To do this, buy roof battens and sound boards. You also need some sand and a normal garden hose. Some styrofoam is used as a insulation used. You can then combine these materials with glass or plastic glass, which is usually installed in greenhouses.
  2. From the roof battens you build a frame with a height of around five centimeters, which you attach to the sound board. You then glue the styrofoam sheet with a thickness of one to three centimeters directly to the bottom of your frame.
  3. Next, put the garden hose in loops directly into the frame construction. Use small pieces of pipe to prevent kinks in the hose.

  4. Now fill your construction completely with sand. The sand later serves as a heat carrier for the sun's heat, which is then passed on to the water in the hose.
  5. Use black pond liner as finishing material for the top finish, which you place directly on the sand and hose. The whole thing gets a tight finish with plexiglass. Finally, screw the roof battens together so that your construction becomes stable.
