Benefits of door curtains

Tightly closing doors are also a problem when it comes to thermal insulation. With door curtains you can:

  • A door is seldom so tight that it does not draw in cold through the cracks on the floor or on the sides. The door curtain keeps the cold in the area between the door and the curtain and prevents the constant mixing of cold and warm air.
  • If the door curtain is a certain distance from the door, you can open the door and at the same time the cold air is not allowed to enter the room directly. This thermal protection is particularly important when it comes to a door to a significantly colder room or an outside door.

Optimal thermal protection through curtains

  • It makes most sense if you stretch door curtains in a semicircle in front of the door. Then you have a kind of lock between the room and the door. There are fastening elements for these systems, for example in specialist restaurants.
  • But you can also attach to a rail that you attach above the door frame without such special systems. It must be possible to open the door away from the curtain, otherwise there will always be a problem between the door and the door curtain.
  • Door curtain as thermal protection - this is how you sew it yourself

The wind blows through the streets and every time you open the front door, flows ...

  • If you have to carry bulky items through the door frequently, you should use folding curtain rods, so you can use the curtain if necessary simply fold it aside and do not block the passage with gathered fabric as you would if you simply slide door curtains to the side.
  • Dimension the curtain generously. Ideally, it hits the floor and lies close to the door frame. If you make the door curtain too tight, cold air can still enter. If you use a split curtain, it must overlap in the middle by at least 10 cm. In that case, you should fix door curtains on the sides of the door frame.
  • Choose dense and heavy material for the door curtain so that it cannot fly up when the door is opened. Also, thin material would not automatically take its place again when someone walks through the curtain.

If you keep this in mind, you will be able to achieve good thermal insulation with door curtains.
