The Pennines are a low mountain range in England, the highest mountain of which is the 893 m high Cross Fell. The Pennines extend across parts of Greater Manchaster, the Midlands and the Yorkshire Dales, among others. The mountains consist largely of sandstone and limestone deposits and are therefore criss-crossed by many caves.
2. The Lake District National Park
The Lake District National Park is home to one of the most famous mountain ranges in England. The lake and mountain landscape of the national park in the north-west of the country includes an area of 2172 km² and has some mountains that are almost 1000 m high, such as the 978 m high Scafell Pike or the 964 m high Sca Fur.
3. The three mountains of Yorkshire
The Yorkshire Three Peaks are three mountains in the county of Yorkshire and are formed by the 736 m high Whemside, the 723 m high Ingleborough and the 694 m high Pen-y-ghent. The area is also home to numerous caves and the highest waterfall in England, the 110 m high Fell Beck.
