Install the lock case in the garden gate
A garden gate should also be secured against unauthorized entry. A lock case is recommended here, which is built into the gate and can be locked with a key. We recommend using a wooden gate for easier assembly.
What you need:
- Lock case
- Drill with a size 17 bit
- Chisel
If you would like to install a lock case in your garden gate yourself, you should make a garden gate out of wood, as the installation of this material is quite uncomplicated. You need a ready-made lock case that you can buy in hardware stores or from a locksmith. In order to be able to let this into the garden gate, it has to be wide enough. Here you will find instructions for installation.
Integrate the lock case correctly into the door
- First of all, you need to create a cavity in the garden gate in which you can insert the lock. Unhook the garden gate and lay it down so that you can mark the dimensions of the lock case. Measure the height at which the lock should sit and mark this height. Now put the lock case on top and draw in the depth. For the later installation you have to take into account that the front plate of the lock, which now rests on the frame, has to be embedded. You should dig a few more millimeters.
- Also mark where you need to drill through the garden gate so that you can insert the lock and handle.
- Now place the lock case with the front plate on the narrow side of the gate and mark the thickness of the plate. This gives the final dimension for the cavity.
- Now drill several holes next to each other with a size 17 bit so that the cavity is approximately created. Also, drill the transverse holes to install the latch and lock.
- Now use a chisel to remove the edges of the holes. You can also use the chisel to define the final position of the faceplate. This creates the cavity in which you can insert the lock.
- Slide in the lock case and fix it with the supplied screws. Then slide in the lock and the door handle and provide both parts with a corresponding cover.
