V-belts and V-ribbed belts on engines

The engines of different vehicles have been or On the one hand, V-belts and, on the other hand, V-ribbed belts are used for power transmission.

  • Mostly V-belts and V-ribbed belts on engines are used to engine to drive seated units by the engine.
  • These can be, for example, power generators, pumps for power steering or compressors for a vehicle's air conditioning system.
  • Due to their structure, V-ribbed belts can transmit higher mechanical forces with the same dimensions, which is why they are used much more frequently today than in the past.
  • This is why you will find ribbed belts in most vehicles these days.
  • Changing the V-belt in the car - this is how it works

Every vehicle has a V-belt, which generates electricity through movement and thus ...

How to tell the difference between the drive belts

The difference in appearance is very easy to see. This also applies to technical laypeople:

  • You can recognize a V-belt, for example, by its smooth outer surface, which is wedge-shaped in the inner direction. This is where the name V-belt comes from. You will rarely find these V-belts in vehicles these days.
  • You will also often find V-belts in the so-called toothed design. This differs from normal V-belts in that the form-toothed V-belts are toothed on their inside. You will find toothed V-belts more often than conventional V-belts.
  • In newer vehicles, on the other hand, you will almost exclusively find ribbed V-belts for driving the engine units. You can recognize a ribbed V-belt by the fact that it is wider and has a smaller cross-section than other V-belts. In addition, a V-ribbed belt has ribs which run in the longitudinal direction.

V-ribbed belts have now replaced V-belts in most areas because they have advantages over them. The main advantage of V-ribbed belts is the significantly better power transmission.
