"I want to ride tournaments"

instagram viewer

Almost everyone who has spent some time on horseback sooner or later becomes ambitious. Small and large horse shows are a dime a dozen in this country. Here is a brief overview of what you have to consider if you or your child want to ride in tournaments.

Classification of horse shows

Not all tournaments are the same: There are not only different levels of difficulty, but also different regulations.

  • Basically, a distinction can be made between riding tournaments and equestrian competitions. Depending on the classification, the Competition Ordinance (WBO) or the Performance Testing Ordinance (LPO) apply.
  • Performance tests are divided into jumping, dressage, eventing and driving. There are also performance tests in vaulting.
  • There are different levels of difficulty in all categories: E - beginners, A - beginners, L - easy, M - medium, S - difficult.
  • The organization and regulation of the horse shows is carried out by the FN, the German Equestrian Federation, performed. The regional equestrian associations are subordinate to this. Here you can also see the tasks that are required for the individual levels of difficulty.

You or your children ride and take part in tournaments with your horse or have it ...

What your requirements must be

This is where it is important to know whether you need to go by the WBO or LPO.

  • If it is a competition, you usually do not need to show a badge. All you have to do is register for this exam using a WBO entry form. No licenses are required for this, but this may vary within the individual countries. However, if you want to ride in a competition, you must be a member of a riding club.
  • Performance tests are more strictly regulated: Here you need licenses that you can only get on presentation of a riding badge.
  • To start with, an “FN trial license” with which you can start in class E is sufficient. For an annual license in classes E and A, you must show the riding / driving badge.
  • From class A you need a license in performance class 6, which you can only acquire with a bronze riding badge.

A prerequisite for all licenses is that you are a member of a riding club. He will certainly also support you in an advisory capacity when applying for the licenses.

Requirement of the horse you want to ride

A riding / driving tournament is of course without Horses not possible. These also have to meet certain requirements:

  • You don't have to start with your own horse, i.e. you can also start with school horses or horses of friends.
  • It is important that the horse that you want to ride has a so-called equine passport, the number of which you have to give when entering.
  • Of course, they must be in good health and have all the necessary vaccinations, such as influenza, to show. It can be examined by the vet at the tournament.
  • If you want to start in LPO tests, your horse must also be registered as a competition horse.

If these requirements are met, nothing stands in the way of the first and many more tournaments, and it won't be long before the first bow can adorn your wall!
