Which products can be sent as consignments?

  • All samples and objects that are usually sold in the trade are regarded as goods.
  • There is one exception, however: not all paper goods are regarded as goods, only those that are also available in stores, such as B. Calendar, stationery and wrapping paper. On the other hand, catalogs, offers, brochures, stamps and the like may not be sent as consignments.
  • Letters or personal communications may not be enclosed with the consignment. Only an invoice for the goods is allowed as an add-on.
  • The goods, including packaging, must not exceed 500 g.
  • The consignment does not necessarily have to be posted at the post office counter; it can also be dropped in the mailbox.
  • Calculate postage for consignments - this is how it works

Special packaging requirements

  • The packaging of the consignment of goods must not exceed the maximum dimensions of 35.3 cm in length, 30 cm in width and 15 cm in height.
  • The word "Goods consignment" must be written directly above the recipient address. Alternatively, a stamp with the inscription "Goods consignment" can be used.
  • The packaging does not necessarily have to be cuboid. Mailers and bags can also be used.
  • The packaging must be "open". Deutsche Post will take a random look at the broadcast to see whether the content is permissible.

What does the "open" packaging of a consignment look like?

  • The packaging must be easy to open and close again.
  • If you send a letter as a consignment, you can use a hole punch to punch two holes in the fold-out page. You push so-called sample bag clips through these holes and then push the ends apart. Do not tape the letter shut.
  • If you have goods to send that are not suitable for a letter, you can also use folding boxes. These cardboard boxes are put into pre-cut slots with flaps and are therefore also considered open, although they appear closed all around. However, you may not then tie packing tape around the package.
  • You can buy both the special mailing letter and the box from Deutsche Post or - usually cheaper - in various online shops that specialize in packaging materials of all kinds to have.
