The correct cooking times for steaks are a problem for most amateur cooks. While pork should generally be cooked through, beef is slightly different. There are different cooking levels that should be strictly adhered to, as everyone wants to enjoy their steak in a different way.

When preparing steaks, you have two options for determining the cooking times. On the one hand, there is a time, on the other hand there is also the so-called pressure test, which of course also requires a sure instinct. Anyone who masters these two variants will definitely be able to cook all kinds of steaks perfectly.

Cooking times for steaks determine the cooking level

  1. There are 4 different cooking levels that you should know. These are the first "English" (rare and bloody inside), the second "Medium rare" (between rare and medium), the third "Medium" (pink inside), and the fourth "Well-done" (through).
  2. The cooking times are then determined from this. Using the example of a rump steak with a thickness of around 3 centimeters, the cooking times will now be shown. With traditional pan preparation, the cooking times are four minutes for level 1, five minutes for level 2, six minutes for level 3 and eight minutes for level 4.
  3. For gentle preparation in the oven (150 degrees top and bottom heat) on level 1 three minutes, on level 2 four minutes, on level 3 six minutes and on level 4 ten minutes. However, it has to steak sear them in the pan for 1 minute beforehand. You have to add 1 minute for each additional centimeter of thickness.

Cooking with the pressure test

  1. Not only do 4 different cooking levels apply to the cooking times, the 4 levels already mentioned also apply to the pressure test.
  2. Fry the pork steak

A pork steak must by no means be too bloody, but also not cooked through. …

  3. In stage 1, bring your index finger and thumb together, then press the heel of your hand. If this pressure matches that of the steak, then your steak is "English" fried.
  4. In step two, bring your middle finger and thumb together and also press the heel of your hand. If this pressure is the same as that of the steak, you have reached the "Medium rare" cooking level.
  5. In step 3 bring your ring finger and thumb together and press the heel of your hand. If the pressure is the same, you have reached the "pink inside" cooking level.
  6. At level 4, bring your little finger together with your thumb and press the heel of your hand. If you agree here, you have reached the "Well-done" level.
