Calculate the weight of gravel
You want to carry out various construction measures and you also need gravel for this. To save costs, you may want to transport it yourself, so you need to know its weight. You can easily calculate that yourself.
Simply put, gravel is coarse-grained stony sand. It is used for filling and leveling areas and mainly for making concrete.
That is why you need to know the weight
- Do you have any construction work planned or want to fill an area with gravel. You have probably already calculated how many cubic meters you need.
- Now you either have to have the gravel delivered to you or you have the option of transporting it yourself. To do this, of course, you need to know the weight so as not to overload the corresponding means of transport.
- Another reason to know the weight could be that your storage area or the driveway to it has a weight limit. So just work out how heavy the load will be.
How to calculate the weight of the gravel
Of course, it has to be correct that you calculate the mass of the gravel. But weight and mass can equate on earth and in common parlance one uses the word "weight", so calculate the weight like this:

- For the calculation there is a formula with the components mass, volume and density. In your case, this means the weight (mass) is equal to the density multiplied by the volume.
- The density of the gravel is a fixed parameter that you can find in various tables and reference books. Gravel has an average density of around 1.5 g / cm3. That is the equivalent of 1500 kg per cubic meter. With this you can now calculate the weight.
- For example, you need 1.5 m3. According to the above formula, this would result in 1500 kg / m3 multiplied by 1.5 m3 a weight of 2250 kg.
So you can calculate the weight of the gravel you need at any time and use it accordingly.
