TIG, MIG and MAG welding machine

Welding is still the most common method of joining metals together. Inert gas welding machines dominate the market. MIG, MAG and TIG are the best known processes. Depending on the metal, however, you will have to use a different welding machine.

In addition to gas-shielded welding, there is also manual arc welding, plasma welding and oxy-fuel welding. Most do-it-yourselfers will use a MIG / MAG or possibly a Have a TIG / TIG welding machine at home as these procedures are the easiest to learn.

MAG welding machines at a glance

MAG welding is the most common method of joining steel together. If you as a do-it-yourselfer mainly needs to weld steel, these devices are the first choice.

  • MAG means metal welding with active gases. CO² or argon are the most common gases. They ensure that no oxygen gets to the weld seam.
  • The welding device continuously feeds a 0.8 - 1.6 mm thick welding wire from a roll via a motor.
  • The shielding gas also protects the weld seam from oxidations that may damage the connections. would weaken and on the other hand it ensures that the arc remains stable.
  • Use the MIG / MAG welding machine correctly

MIG and MAG processes are often possible with a welding machine

Most inert gas welding machines are equipped for MIG and MAG welding. Only the gas bottle and the wire have to be replaced. When you buy a device like this, you can weld almost anything with the right accessories.

  • MIG means metal inert gas welding. The gas argon or the more expensive helium is mostly used here. These gases do not react with the weld metal to be joined.
  • MIG welding is used for non-ferrous metals such as aluminum or stainless steel. But if you want to connect these metals with each other, you usually need a special welding wire to be able to connect the more noble metals with each other.

TIG welding at a glance

With TIG welding, experienced welders create the best seams. However, the devices are more expensive than the MIG / MAG devices.

  • TIG welding is also called TIG welding. In German it is called tungsten inert gas welding. TIG is the English name - Tungsten Inert-Gaswelding.
  • With the TIG welding machine, the welding wire is not fed via a roll, but is fed independently - mostly by hand.
  • The heat is generated by a non-burning tungsten electrode.
  • The luminous flux and the weld seam are also protected by argon or helium. With TIG welding, all metals that can melt can be connected to one another.

Since the weld seams are the cleanest due to the targeted heat emission and the workpiece is less affected by the If heat warps, the TIG process is used for pipelines, apparatus engineering or in the chemical industry applied.
