When watching a TV program on RTL, subtitles are sometimes displayed. If you find this annoying, you can also switch off the subtitles.

Recently, subtitles have also been shown on RTL. For people who have a hard time hearing, this is of course very convenient because the programs can be followed better. The problem, however, is that one's gaze instinctively focuses on the text that is being displayed. If you find it annoying, you can also switch off the subtitles on RTL.

This is how you can turn off the subtitles on RTL

  1. In contrast to the public television channels, the subtitles on RTL are not displayed via teletext, but only digitally. Still, you can turn off the subtitles.
  2. If you receive RTL via a digital satellite receiver or a DVB-T receiver, you must call up the configuration menu of the receiver.
  3. Here you select audio properties or language. It depends on the device. In this menu you can also set the desired language for the subtitles. This can be a useful function for foreign broadcasters, but not for RTL.
  4. Therefore you should select “None” or “Switch off”. Other formulations can of course also be used with your receiver.

Temporarily switch off the subtitles on RTL

  1. If you only want to temporarily switch off the subtitles on RTL, you can usually do this using your remote control.
  2. Your remote control likely has a button that says “Subtitle” or it has a button on it screen symbolizes, at the bottom of which there is a line.
  3. As soon as you press this button, a small menu will appear on your TV screen. In this menu you can switch off the subtitles on RTL.
