Usually, Advent wreaths are tied over a ring made of straw or styrofoam. These wreaths created in this way are not that easy to keep fresh. You cannot stop the drying process completely, but you can slow it down considerably.

  • First of all, it is very important that you make sure that the branches used are of good quality when you buy such a wreath. These should still look very fresh. Ask when the branches were cut because the less time has passed since then, the better your chances of keeping the wreath fresh.
  • You can also choose a wreath made with branches from a long-lived, needless fir tree. These are a little more expensive to buy, but the freshness of the branches is retained for longer.
  • Place the Advent wreath in as cool a place as possible. The drying process proceeds much faster right next to the heater or a fireplace.
  • If possible, you should put the wreath outside overnight, on the balcony, terrace or in another cool place.
  • Make the Advent wreath durable and reduce the risk of fire - this is how it works

  • It is also very helpful if you spray the wreath daily with a little water from a spray bottle. You can also do this with a decorated wreath as the spray mist is fine enough not to damage the decoration.

You can use these tricks to extend the shelf life of your Advent wreath, but not entirely prevent it from drying out. To achieve this, you have to create your wreath completely yourself.

Create your own Advent wreath

For a wreath that should really stay fresh throughout Advent, you don't need a ring made of straw or styrofoam as a base, but one made of arrangement moss. In addition, you need a sufficiently large bowl in which you can put the moss wreath.

  1. For this wreath, too, choose branches of a kind of fir with little needles. Cut the twigs into small pieces and stick them in the moss ring, as close together as possible, until you have finished your wreath.
  2. Put some water directly into the bowl so that the moss ring can soak up it.
  3. Now you can decorate your wreath and place it where you want it.
  4. You now have to ensure that the moss ring is saturated with enough water every day. In this way, the branches can always draw enough water, which means that they stay moist enough from the inside up to the needle tips and thus remain fresh.
  5. It is no longer necessary to spray water from the outside, and the Advent wreath can remain in its place, as it is continuously supplied with water via the moss ring.

This will keep your wreath fresh throughout the entire Advent season.
