Cover stairs with carpet
There are many who prefer to cover their stairs with carpets instead of wooden stairs. Since there are a wide variety of steps, the question naturally arises as to how these steps are occupied. There is a method here that you can use to take any form of level.
However, you should be aware that with this type of laying when the carpet should be removed from the stairs again, this involves some work. However, you will be delighted with the result of this type of installation. You just have to make sure that the stairs are in a good, straight condition, otherwise additional preparatory work would be necessary.
Occupying stairs is not that difficult
Measure the entire staircase to be covered exactly. This means that you have to take into account not only the steps, but also the risers. Give an allowance of at least 10 cm per step in length and width, especially also when the steps are different, for example when the stairs have a curve contains. Always measure at the deepest point of the steps.
- Now take your carpet and lay it out. Now measure step by step and also cut off the carpet step by step. Don't forget to always add an encore. Start from the top down.
- To brush Now insert the first step including the riser with a strong contact adhesive. You do the same with your first carpet tier. Let the glue set for a few minutes.
- Now glue the piece of carpet from the step over the edge, down to the lower edge of the riser and rub it down vigorously.
- Now you can cut off the excess edges with the utility knife and thus adjust your level.
- Proceed in this way with all steps until they are completely covered with carpet.
- Of course, it would also be important to attach an anti-slip rail to the edges of the stairs. These are available as rubber or metal rails. If the stairs are made of wood, you can simply fix them with nails after they have been adjusted.
- With a stone staircase, you can only do this with a metal rail. After it has also been adjusted, you must lay this exactly on the steps before laying the carpet and mark the holes for the screw connections. Then drill the holes and put a dowel in each one.
- After the carpet has been laid, you can put the rail on, punch through the covering at the holes with a punch and screw the rail together.
- Never drill through the laid carpet. You would immediately pull the carpet fibers and thus destroy the carpet.

If one side of the stairs is free, you must finally provide the side edges with so-called end rails. You can also attach these with contact adhesive.
