Combine BahnCard and saver fare

Traveling by train is convenient, but not always cheap. It is a good idea to get a BahnCard, especially if you take the train frequently. In combination with a special ticket at a saver price, you can really save a little.

Save with the Bahncard.

Deutsche Bahn has been offering the BahnCard for years, an electronic chip card with which you can get certain percentages off the fare.

How the BahnCard works

  • The BahnCard was introduced years ago for frequent travelers who regularly use the train drive and which should guarantee these people reduced fares. The card is the size of an EC card and has a passport photo.
  • There are different BahnCards. You pay a certain amount for the BahnCard once a year and in return you get a certain percentage discount on the regular fare.
  • The most expensive BahnCard is the BahnCard 100. It costs from 3,990 euros, but you also get a 100% discount, which means that you can go anywhere you want for this amount for a year and no longer have to buy tickets at the counter. This is practical, but of course also a hefty sum and is only worthwhile if you really drive a lot.
  • The BahnCard 50 gives you a 50% discount on all fares. It costs 240 euros per year and is worthwhile if you take the train regularly.
  • Apply for Bahncard 25 - this is how it works

If you take the train more often, but not often enough for a normal ...

  • The Bahncard 25 is recommended for occasional drivers. With it there is a 25% discount and it costs 59 euros over a whole year. This is definitely worth it, especially on longer journeys, even if you do not drive so regularly.

In addition, save with the saver price

  • For some time now, Deutsche Bahn has also been offering special promotions in which journeys are offered at a budget price. Not every train connection can be taken into account, but if you are reasonably flexible and don't have to travel at a specific time, the saver fare is definitely worth it.
  • Most of the time, train connections that are not so well booked are offered at a saver price. Most of the time, these are train connections at less favorable times, such as very early in the morning or late in the evening.
  • Even if you buy a travel ticket three days before the start of your journey, you have the option of getting it cheaper at a budget price. However, the ticket will expire if you cannot travel on this date. In addition, you cannot take any other train than the one you booked.
  • You can combine the saver prices with the BahnCard 25, not with the BahnCard 50 (with the Bahncard 100 this is no longer necessary anyway). You will then receive a 25% discount on the saver price. Only a possible seat reservation is excluded from this.
