It feels like an eternity. Anyone who makes it to the top is a star. National artists and international world stars cavort in the Media Control album charts. The list is updated once a week. Since the time of the update has changed from time to time in the past, the question automatically arises when the album charts will be brought up to date today. There are a number of charts that relate to individual music genres or sales types. However, with the album charts from Media Control there is only one official rating list for the sales of music albums in this country.
Who updates the album charts
- In addition to all other official hit lists, the album charts are also determined by the private company Media Control GK International on behalf of the Federal Association of the Phonographic Industry. This also has the rights to the publications, which is why you can only view the first 5 to 10 places on the Internet for free. Media Control covers approx. 85% of the music market, making the charts considered representative.
- Media Control is based in Baden-Baden and operates worldwide. In Germany, in addition to the music rankings, the company also creates charts in other areas of the entertainment industry. For example, the lists for the sales figures for books, cinema tickets, downloads, video games or ring tones are determined and published by the people of Baden-Baden. When and in which cycle these lists are updated depends on the respective industry and its circumstances.
When and how and how the album charts are updated
When creating the album charts - as with all other official sales rankings - the absolute numbers are not given for economic reasons. When collecting sales data, Media Control refers exclusively to sales from retail to end consumers. In the rankings, therefore, only information about the placement, the number of weeks the album has been in the charts and the highest chart position reached to date appear.
- The album charts are updated every week and thus brought up to date. Media Control is based on the calendar weeks. This is important at the turn of the year, as the sales figures “between the years” must be assigned to the correct annual statistics.
- The time when the album charts are updated falls on Friday. The update takes place at 12:00 noon. The internet portals, which in addition to Media Control also publish the charts, may deviate slightly from this time when the new data is presented.
