- The octane number indicates the so-called knock resistance of the fuel. Super gasoline has 95 octane, Super Plus 98. To put it simply, there are fewer misfires with fuel with a higher octane number, which results in an increased energy yield. Of the engine then runs smoother and uses less fuel. How much less can be very different depending on the vehicle and engine type.
- The difference between Super and Super plus is registered by knock sensors built into most modern engines. If the knock resistance is low, "countermeasures" are initiated electronically. Among other things, the ignition point is set differently, which means that the engine runs a little more smoothly again, but consumption also increases.
Super plus - performance and consumption depending on the car
- All in all, you can with safety say that the engine runs smoother with Super plus and consumes a little less. It cannot really be said in the general way that the oil companies like to put these values into figures. Because depending on the structure and technical characteristics of the engine, it reacts very differently to the respective type of fuel.
- In principle, it is good to follow the vehicle manufacturer's tank instructions. After all, it is not without reason that the automobile brands issue these guidelines for the engines that they mostly develop. The aim and intention is to ensure that your own technology works optimally.
- If you want to increase the performance of your engine or if you want to thank the cheaper super instead of the recommended super plus, you should simply test this out. Before you move on to the "new type", you should record the mileage and the amount of fuel every time you fill up and calculate the actual consumption. Once this is established, switch to the other variety and do the same. The driving behavior should be the same as always.
