How long does goulash keep in the fridge?

Some foods should not be kept for too long. If you're not sure how long a particular product will last, freeze it. You should be especially careful with raw meat (and meat products). If you can't (or don't want to) freeze your goulash and need to keep it in the refrigerator for more than a day, then it's a good idea to cook it.

How long can meat be kept in the refrigerator?

As short as possible!

  • Raw meat doesn't last very long (unfortunately). Even if you keep it in the refrigerator, you need to prepare it as soon as possible.
  • The rule is: meat that has been chopped up spoils faster because dangerous bacteria can spread particularly rapidly here.
  • A good example is ground beef. Surely you know that you always have to use minced meat on the day you bought it.
  • Minced meat and the shelf life in the refrigerator - this is important to note

How long is the shelf life of minced meat in the refrigerator guaranteed? What do ...

  • Also note that goulash is chopped up meat. You should never store it in your refrigerator for more than 24 hours.
  • Some supermarkets offer packaged meat that - if you go beyond the best-before date - should stay fresh for a long time. Pay attention to the temperature information on the packaging. Is it really that cold in your fridge? Get a thermometer and double-check it.
  • Back to the meat: before you cook it, make sure it's not greasy and smells good. A bad (sometimes sweet) smell and (or) a gray discoloration mean that you are no longer allowed to eat the meat.

Remember: your health comes first. Don't risk your food making you sick - it's not worth it.

Prepared goulash will last longer

If there is any time you can't use your meat right away, freeze it. If this is not possible for you, then prepare it.

  • While, as already said, you should consume your fresh goulash no later than one day after you bought it, the prepared product will keep much longer.
  • Cook your goulash and after it has cooled, put it in the refrigerator. Do not cover it immediately, wait until the dish has reached the refrigerator temperature. This will prevent the food from going sour.
  • If you add other ingredients to your goulash, for example mushrooms, want to add, you should do so later (just before consumption). Some mushrooms don't like it at all when reheated. You can develop toxins.

Your prepared goulash you can now for at least three days in the refrigerator store.
