  • Knowledge makes you smart. It is generally a good idea to find out how safe it is to fly beforehand. But do you find out beforehand how safe it is to drive a car?
  • The problem with flying is not necessarily the accident rate, but how many people die in crashes. According to research by the Frankfurter Rundschau, 829 people died after plane crashes in 2010. That was 49 air accidents. Significantly more people died driving a car in 2010: around 3,700 according to the Federal Statistical Office.
  • However, it must also be said that there were no flight accidents at all with the very large airlines in the past year.
  • So what causes your fear of flying? Is it just because you don't know how safe it is to fly?

How to stop your fear of flying

  • In particular, it is the negative thoughts that shape us. They start with fear, nervousness, tremors and even panic attacks.
  • Fear of heights and airplane clues

Would you like to go on vacation a little further away? For this would have to ...

  • Basically, some reactions are completely normal. Your body reacts to unusual events in the planewhen you don't have to fly every day.
  • Questions like: "If the plane crashes?", "Is the pilot well trained?" or "I can't get out of here once the plane is in the air?"
  • There are things in life that you cannot stop. In a car accident, you have just as little control of yourself and the vehicle as you do on an airplane. And if the negative thoughts are constantly circling your head, it can completely upset you.
  • Basically, you should consider whether you can place your trust in the pilot and in the technology. You do that in the automobile (if you drive a car) too. Or do you think beforehand whether you will reach your destination safely? It's no different on the train and on the bus.
  • The more trust you have not only in yourself, but also in the pilot and in the technology, the more relaxed you will be flying.
  • You can also get coached, for example in the form of behavioral training. Ask your health insurance company which therapists offer training against fear of flying.
  • Before you get on the plane, say to yourself: "I trust myself and the pilot and I will be brought safely to my destination".
  • It is certainly not easy to place your trust in others and strangers at that. But it doesn't work any other way. Because you cannot be in control of the plane.
