How the registration at the grammar school works - information 

The way in which the registration on high school expires is very similar at all high schools in Germany.

  • At the end of the last school year on the middle or primary school a recommendation is issued to each student. This can either mean that the student should go to middle school or high school in the future.
  • If your child's recommendation does not state that they can attend a grammar school, they can alternatively take an aptitude test. This tests how suitable the child is for further training at a grammar school. If this exam is passed, an application for registration can be submitted.
  • After receiving this recommendation, you can enroll your child in a high school. The application at the grammar school runs through the parents of the student. Both parents must be present if both have custody. If one of the parents is unable to attend the registration, they must hand over a power of attorney and a copy of their identity card.
