List an item on eBay with a reserve price

If you list an item on eBay at a reserve price, you avoid the risk of the item being sold at a price that is too low. Nevertheless, there are a few things to consider. The additional option minimum price leads to higher seller fees and is also not available for all articles. It can be used for the categories aircraft, vehicles and boats as well as for business & industry, watches & jewelry and antiques & art. The minimum price selection is available for eBay sites in Germany and Austria, but not in Switzerland. If you would like to set an item for these categories, proceed as follows:

1. Open that Internet and then the sales form on your eBay seller account.
2. Fill it out as you would for a normal online auction on eBay.
3. When you reach the fields for inserting the prices in the form, click on the 'Minimum price' option and insert the numerical value you want. This minimum price is not visible to buyers. During the auction, only the information "Minimum price not reached" or "Minimum price reached" can be read by bidders. You can also only read the eBay names of the bidders. If the minimum price is not reached by the end of the auction, the item will not be sold either.

4. Finish filling out the sales form as usual.

5. To change the minimum price, open the offer and click on 'Edit offer'. The sales form opens again and you can change the reserve price.

Misconduct can have consequences for the seller account 

• eBay has strict guidelines that every seller must follow. In the event of a violation, eBay can impose sanctions on sellers, which can lead to exclusion from the eBay marketplace. It is advisable to read through these guidelines before listing an item.
• You can no longer change the minimum price if one or more bids have been received for the item you are offering. Furthermore, a minimum price change within the last twelve hours before the end of the auction is no longer possible.
• You may not end the offer prematurely if there is reason to fear that the intended minimum price will not be reached.
