If you would like to play songs on the guitar but don't know exactly how, then you should take a look at the sheet music.

In addition to the piano, the guitar is probably the most popular instrument for playing and accompanying songs. With a little experience and good hearing, you don't even need grades, although they are of course very helpful.

Correctly read the notes of songs

Most of the songs are relatively simply notated, but you have to be able to read notes for the melody if you don't know the song very well.

  • The staff consists of five lines and a clef. This is usually the treble clef. Then there is also an indication of the key, in which at the beginning of each line there are sharps or B-flats as accidentals. Without a sign, e. C major or its parallel minor key of A minor.
  • At the beginning of the piece there are also two digits on top of each other that indicate the time signature. So you know how many beats a measure has. Mostly there are three or four. This is also important to know for the accompaniment.

First, learn to finger the most important chords on the guitar. These are C major, A major and A minor, G major, D major and D minor, E major and possibly E minor, as well as B major and F major. You should also learn how to form seventh chords from major chords.

  • For a song, you usually get by with three chords at the beginning. If the song z. B. is in C major. So you need C, G and F major.
  • Just try to find the right chords by ear. In addition, the notes of the melody point to the correct harmonies. If the chords are even there, this step is of course already done.
  • Now strike these chords in a suitable rhythm, song, z. B. Bass and then chord alternating with a two-measure or bass-chord chord with a three-measure. Sometimes it can also be nice to play the notes individually and continuously.

As you can see, you have to get used to it, but actually accompanying songs on the guitar is not that difficult and the notes leave a lot of room for your own creativity.
