Being able to react quickly makes many areas of life easier. In situations like those that can arise while driving, it is even necessary for safety. If you want to train your reaction for this reason, you can do so through a targeted training plan.

Be attentive and act! - Basics of quick responsiveness

If someone wants to train their ability to react, then they should be clear about some connections in advance.

  • Reaction is something natural that is inherent in every human being. The ability to react quickly, in turn, is the answer to an abrupt change in the environment. As long as nothing changes, a routine and mechanical procedure is sufficient. So, to a certain extent, good reaction requires the ability to break out of routines quickly.
  • You know this from driving a car: as long as "nothing special" happens, you drive with routine. Your ability to react is only put to the test when the driver in front of you hits the brakes, for example. An external trigger - in this case the optical one from the brake light - prompts you to leave your routine. How quickly you succeed in doing this depends on personal disposition, and adaptability training together. However, your ability to react is initially based on something else: your attention.
  • Only those who are attentive to their surroundings recognize changes quickly enough to react quickly with adaptation. For example, if you see a glass wobble on an edge, then you can catch it more easily than if you only noticed it when it falls. Attention training also trains the ability to react. However, if you are quick to react when driving, you do not have to be able to automatically react just as quickly when doing sports, for example.
  • Fast reaction is an internalized combination of trigger and appropriate follow-up action. Apart from the general attention, it is important to train the relevant triggers. When driving a car, for example, the aforementioned visual stimuli such as brake lights, traffic lights or movement trigger a braking reaction. This corresponds to a learned reaction that takes place automatically and without thinking. A reaction as an answer to the stimuli of certain situations is trained and automated through regular practical experience.

  • Your character should not be neglected when it comes to responsiveness. People react to abrupt changes in their surroundings, depending on their person, experience and disposition, relatively individually. Roughly, the natural answer is either rigidity or action.
  • If you are one of the shockers, then that can at least be improved through targeted trigger training. The freezing is related to an abrupt rise in stress hormone levels. Therefore, stress management exercises can also provide improvement. Regular relaxation exercises are also helpful because they lower the general stress hormone level.

  3. Train attention, motor speed and comprehension and assessment skills together. Martial arts such as karate offer optimal training for increasing general responsiveness.
