Save the vacation pay yourself

  • If you receive what are known as Hartz 4 benefits, you are also obliged to apply for an absence from the location - for example for a vacation. You can be granted up to three weeks a year for vacation purposes without the benefits being reduced.
  • However, the job center does not offer any special vacation pay, as employees usually receive from their employer. You will therefore have to pay for travel and accommodation costs out of your own pocket.

Hartz-4 recipients should apply for absence from the location in good time

  • As a recipient of benefits under SGB II, you should submit an application for absence from the location as early as possible. Because if the application is not processed in time or the absence from the location is not approved and you are then not available, this can lead to great trouble with the job center.
  • If you want to go on vacation for more than three weeks, you will no longer be able to draw benefits for the time longer than this. If you are away for more than six weeks from the outset, you will usually not be entitled to benefits at all.

There is no independent entitlement to vacation pay for recipients of benefits under SGB II. The vacation must be covered by existing reserves or savings from the standard rate.
