The mixer tap is leaking

The mixer tap for the hot and cold water on the bathtub or washbasin is dripping? Then a seal is leaking and must be replaced. Get to work

There are jobs that shouldn't be put off the back burner. You get annoyed again and again. Do not be afraid to look at the inner workings of your mixer tap. It's easier than you might think. If your faucet is dripping, one of the rubber seals on the water inlet is leaking.

A mixer tap is no magic

  1. Buy a suitable rubber seal in advance at the hardware store. These are mostly standardized.
  2. Turn off the inlet for the cold and warm water. You can find the device either under the sink or go into the basement and close the shut-off valves there.
  3. Open the tap on the mixer tap and check that the water is really turned off.
  4. You will need water pump pliers. Before you attach the pump to the mostly chrome-plated mixer tap, put a piece of cloth or a piece of rubber in between so that you don't scratch the surface.
  5. The water inlet on the dishwasher is leaking - what to do?

It can always happen that a water connection leaks. It's annoying ...

  6. Place the water pump pliers with the chrome protection on the first large screw connection.
  7. Turn the pliers to the left. Screws are always opened counterclockwise.
  8. Once the screw is loosened, you can turn it all the way by hand.
  9. Unscrew the second screw as well.
  10. You can now remove the mixer tap and see the open water supply pipes in front of you.

Change leaky rubber rings

  1. In the mixer tap you will see a black or a red rubber seal. Remove the seal, using the tip of a screwdriver if necessary. Usually there is a small sieve in front of it. Take out the strainer too.
  2. Now that you have removed the mixer tap, replace both seals on both waterways.
  3. Now put a replacement seal in place of the original seal. Put on the strainer again.
  4. Hold the mixer tap in front of the inlet pipes again and screw the large locking screws loosely back on one after the other by turning them clockwise.
  5. Now tighten the screws properly with the water pump pliers.
  6. Open the water inlet and check whether the mixer tap is still leaking. If this is the case, you must remove the mixer tap again. If necessary, grease the rubber seal with a little water-soluble grease that you can buy in building trade especially for this purpose.
  7. Check that you have inserted the seals in such a way that they are not tilted and that they lie flat in the thread.
  8. If the mixer tap still drips, ask your wife to replace the rubber seals. She probably has more experience with rubber seals.
