VIDEO: Cleaning the wallpaper

Wallpaper can be soiled by a wide variety of substances. Smaller ones stains from red wine or fat are easier to remove than flat soiling, such as occurs, for example, in a smoker's household. It is also crucial whether it is a simple wallpaper or whether it has been painted over, for example with latex paint.

Before you get down to cleaning the wallpaper, test the method of your choice on a small, inconspicuous corner. Also, make sure that no water runs through the wallpaper seams behind the wallpaper, as it will otherwise come off.

How to fix two-dimensional wallpaper pollution

  • The most common flat wallpaper pollution comes from nicotine in smoker households. Unfortunately, painting over does not help here, as the nicotine stains keep coming through through the paint. So if you don't want to repackage, you'll need to clean the old wallpaper.
  • Wallpaper that has been painted over with latex paint or a smudge-proof binder can easily be rubbed off with a slightly damp cloth or sponge. You can also add a little glass cleaner to stubborn stains.
  • Vinyl wallpapers can also be cleaned with a damp cloth and cleaning solution. Be very careful not to damage the surface.
  • Remove grease stains from cotton - this is how it works

Grease stains are quickly visible on cotton and look bad. You should ...

  • If you don't want to or can't use a cleaner, just use hot water and a microfiber cloth.
  • Wallpaper can also be cleaned with warm wheat bran in a cloth.

How to clean individual stains

  • You can remove stains on the wallpaper with an eraser. Gently rub the stain.
  • Instead of an eraser, you can also use some kneaded, fresh white bread to clean the wallpaper and rub off the stain.
  • Grease stains on the wallpaper can be removed with a Iron clean up. Fat melts in warm temperatures and can be soaked up. Place a paper towel over the stain and iron over it with a not too hot iron. Repeat this as long - always with a clean piece of kitchen paper - until the stain has disappeared.

You can of course also remove smaller stains with the means described above, i.e. with water, detergent and a sponge.
