Clean the drain with a spiral

Important information about cleaning the drain

If the water stops draining, don't necessarily get a coil and maybe even squeeze it through the holes in the drain strainer. First do the following:

• Remove coarse debris from the strainer on the drain. Especially in bathtubs and showers, if roommates with long hair have used them, the hair will hang in the drain. Sometimes it's just a few strands that can be seen from the outside, with whole clumps of hair hanging from them under the sieve. Even if you don't see a lot of hair in the colander, pull it out. Often times the drain is fine again.
• Remove the siphon under the drains and clean it. Most of the blockages do not sit there in the downstream downpipe in the wall.
• With the siphon removed, it is also easier to get the spiral into the drain pipe, if necessary.

Get rid of drains with the spiral

Caution: Do not clean the pipes with caustic soda, pipe cleaners or the like. Never use the funds while you are using the IUD at the same time

Drain clean, this can lead to severe burns. But you can step up cleaning with enzymatic drain cleaners:

1. The spirals are usually so small in diameter that you can push them through the sieves on the drain. So if you cannot reach the drain on showers or tubs from the side because a maintenance hatch is missing, then you can also go through these openings. Please never unscrew the screw in the middle of the sieve if you cannot get to the pipe from the side, otherwise you will not get it together.
2. Slide the IUD down the drain as far as it will go. Then turn the crank and try to push the spiral further. This "seeks" a way in the drain, which can take a while with winding drains. Often it is easier for two. One cranks, the other pushes.
3. Pull the coil out again when it can no longer be moved. Usually you have at least part of the plug attached to it, which is the cause of the blockage. If you haven't been able to remove the strainer, try to pull as much of the dirt through the strainer as you can. A wire bent into a hook will help.
4. When the spiral is clean, push it back in again. If you also pour hot water into the drain pipe, it will continue to rinse the loosened dirt towards the main pipe. Repeat the process until the water drains freely again.

You can possibly get hard incrustations. Clean with a professional spiral, but with the usual spirals for cleaning drains that are available in hardware stores, you can only remove soft blockages - such as hair or grease residues.
