VIDEO: Set up the Dolby Surround system correctly

A Dolby Surround system consists of the music system, 5 loudspeakers and a subwoofer. In order to take full advantage of such a system, you should position the loudspeaker boxes correctly in the room.

This is how you can set up a Dolby Surround system

  1. The music system, which usually consists of a Dolby Surround amplifier, a CD player and a receiver, should of course be set up near a socket. This saves you having to lay extension cables in the room.
  2. The position of the subwoofer doesn't really matter. The subwoofer only transmits tones with very low frequencies anyway. These cannot be located for the human ear.
  3. The other loudspeakers should be positioned so that you can enjoy the Dolby Surround sound from your preferred seating position.
  4. The center box is optimized for the transmission of speech and song. That is why it should be placed exactly opposite you.
  5. Connect loudspeakers correctly

Since your old speaker boxes broke, you now have new boxes ...

  6. The two front speakers should be placed in the corner on the left and right as far as possible. The width of the room also plays a role here. The distance between the two front speakers should not be greater than the distance between the speakers and your seating position.
  7. You should definitely place the two rear loudspeaker boxes behind your seating position. Again, the distances between the boxes and to you should be the same.
  8. If you have set up all the loudspeakers in your Dolby Surround system correctly, you should be sitting exactly in the center of the sound. However, this is not possible in every room. For this reason, the volume of the individual speakers can usually be adjusted very easily on the system.
