VIDEO: Fogged windows from the inside

The most common cause of fogged up window from the inside there is and remains the formation of condensation water. This is understood to be water that escapes from the air that is getting cooler and particularly adheres to windows. The room temperature and humidity are responsible for this.

Fogged windows can be avoided

The warmer the air in the room, the more water it can absorb. If, on the other hand, the air cools down, this absorption capacity is very limited and the water is deposited on various components.

  • The reason for the formation of this condensation water is the temperature and the humidity, for which the human being is also responsible. Water vapor is created, for example, when cooking, bathing or showering. This humidity must now be bound by the heat.
  • Condensation and the resulting fogged up windows from the inside can only be avoided if the relative humidity remains well below 100 percent.
  • You have to ensure that there are no serious temperature differences within the apartment. Otherwise, especially when temperatures are too low, there are areas where condensation forms. The window areas in particular are very susceptible here.

  • You can also ensure a regulated exchange of air by ventilating well several times a day for 5 - 10 minutes. This measure can also prevent windows misting up from the inside.
  • These measures are important because humidity can lead to mold growth in the home, which is then very harmful to health.
  • Take precautions while cooking, so that windows misted up on the inside cannot arise in the first place. For example, open the window right at the beginning of the cooking process and exchange the moist air in the room for fresh air. At the Ventilation the heating should always be turned off so that no energy is wasted.
  • If possible, you should open the window while you are showering. This allows the moist air to escape and the window does not fog up as much.

Dry condensation on the inside of the window panes

  • Windows steamed up on the inside are not uncommon after showering or bathing. Now you should either open the window for a long time so that the humidity can escape outside, or - for example in winter - use a different ventilation tactic. Open the window until the air in the room has been exchanged. Then close the window again and turn the heating back on. When the room warms up again, the air absorbs the moisture from the room again. Then turn the heating off again and ventilate again. Repeat these processes until the windows are nice and dry again.
  • If you want to speed up the process of drying the window, you can also pre-dry the pane with a window squeegee. Thoroughly wipe the water that collects on the window frame and window sill dry with a rag. You have already removed a large part of the water and the window panes dry much faster when they are aired.
