Buy Sulmtaler poultry

  • Before you buy the poultry, you should know that it is a two-part hen, which is characterized by temperament and robustness, on the other hand also by Income wealth. Its appearance also sets it apart from other breeds: it wears a small tuft on its head and hens have a swaddling comb. Depending on the breed, the poultry breed can ultimately live almost five times as old as other chickens.
  • Since the Sulmtaler population in Germany has declined sharply since the Second World War, you will not necessarily find the chicken in your area. It is estimated that there are around 25 companies in Germany that keep and sell Sulmtaler poultry. It's easier to find the dwarf form of the chicken - at least you can keep that in mind as an alternative.
  • How much you end up paying for the chicken depends on a number of things: The age of the animal plays just as much a role as purebred. Do not let yourself be ripped off, especially when it comes to purebredness: Sulmtalers never have yellow ones Legs, they are wheat-colored and have a finely serrated comb with at least 4 and a maximum of 6 points having.
  • Basically: 8 weeks old young animals cost around 20 euros each. You should therefore be able to reckon with a price of around 3 euros per week of life.
  • The best thing to do is to look around at rural small animal markets. Even if you can't find one there, you will come across poultry farmers who may be able to give you information about whom to contact.

Caring for the chicken properly

  • First of all, it is important that you should never keep a chicken alone. You should at least buy 3 hens and a rooster if you want to get Sulmtaler.
  • Free range is important to the breed. You should also enable the animals to find their own food - in meadows, Pastures or fields, in midsummer best in mixed forests. Since these are very clean animals, you should keep the stables in good condition by mucking out daily.
  • Even if the chickens like to take care of their own feed, you should provide a feeding trough with additional feed in the barn. For the winter and of course also in the summer after dark, the Sulmtaler is housed in the stable.

If you want to buy the chicken breed because you are looking for a hobby, you should urgently refrain from buying it: In the end, the animals are too demanding for that.
