Build a floor-level shower yourself

With a floor level shower there is no basin for entry and water drainage. Instead, the ground is uneven so that the water in the traps can run off. When building a new house, installing a floor-level shower is easy. However, you can also build them into an existing bathroom.

Install a floor-level shower in the bathroom

1. If you want to integrate a floor-level shower in your bathroom, this means more effort than if you opt for a shower tray. For this you will be rewarded with an easier entry and a better look. The installation of drains and traps is complex, because the floor must be sloped towards the drain and the traps must be laid under or in the floor ceiling.
2. When retrofitting the shower, plan for having to re-tile the entire floor. It is best to integrate the floor-level shower into your bathroom during a complete renovation.

3. First remove all Tiles from the floor and create a new floor surface with screed. In the case of a concrete floor, the lowest point corresponds to the previous floor height of the bathroom. With a new screed ceiling, you can create the necessary recess for draining the shower water.
4. You have to lay the traps under the floor. If you have a basement, you have to poke a hole through the base plate and you can mount the traps directly underneath on the basement ceiling. If the basement is missing, you have to chisel a hole in the floor before applying the screed ceiling, in which you can lay the traps. In this case, make sure that you choose a trap that is made of metal. You cannot embed a plastic model in the ground.
