What to do about ladybugs in the house
Ladybugs on a summer meadow are wonderful. In the house, however, they are annoying. Therefore, in the following guide you will learn what you can do against the vermin in the house to get rid of the ladybugs as quickly as possible.
What you need:
- Bowl of water
- Lavender oil
- Bay leaves
- Fly screens
- Dustpan and broom
- Vacuum cleaner (optional)
- Old tights (optional)
Where do the ladybugs come from?
- Ladybugs mostly come into the apartment when you live under the roof. The ladybugs feel very comfortable in the warmth and can reproduce well.
- If you live in the country, where there are many fields, ladybugs often get lost in the houses. This is particularly problematic in older houses. Even with the windows closed, the animals crawl through the cracks and are difficult to convince to move again.
So do something against the animals
- Be sure to find the spot where the ladybugs invade. As long as you have not found them, there is nothing you can do about the animals. When you have found the spot, you should close it. You can get help from companies that are familiar with house insulation to seal the loopholes.
- Since the ladybirds mostly about the window penetrate, you should protect them as well as possible. Apply a few drops of lavender oil to the window sill and window frame. Alternatively, you can add some lavender oil to a bowl of water. The smell is pleasant for humans and works against the ladybugs.
- Instead of lavender oil, you can put bay leaves on the windowsill. These do not smell for humans and therefore do not bother in the slightest. In addition to their beautiful appearance, these easily drive away the ladybugs.
- Ventilation It is best to only do this when there are no lights on in your room and make sure that your rooms are as cold as possible. At low temperatures the animals cannot survive and you are rid of the vermin.
- In order to permanently do something against the ladybugs, you should install fly screens. So you can easily protect yourself permanently from the animals, even if you don't want to use anything chemical.

- The most commonly practiced method, the Beetle simply trampling on is not only brutal, but also unpleasant, as the trampled beetles give off an unpleasant stench. Also sucking up the ladybugs with the vacuum cleaner is not recommended because the insects become severely stressed. It is usually most effective to simply pick up the ladybugs with a dustpan and broom and bring them outside.
- If you don't want to do without the vacuum cleaner, you should adopt a special technique: pulling it over Put an old pair of tights over the vacuum cleaner pipe and be prepared for the plague of ladybugs before. In the end, the bugs are trapped in the tights and you can release them back into the wild.
This is how you prevent a ladybug infestation
- A ladybird plague can occur especially in autumn, when the beetles start looking for suitable winter quarters in droves. They are particularly attracted to bright or sunny areas, which is why you should protect the buildings with appropriate walls.
Protect your home adequately if it is threatened by a ladybug infestation. Close all holes and cracks in the plaster, on the exterior facade and on all doors and windows. It is advisable to attach insect screens to supply pipes and similar to prevent the ladybugs from entering. Spices that should be placed in the window area can also help. Camphor and vanilla are suitable alongside the above-mentioned lavender and bay leaves.
If you are already suffering from a ladybug infestation, don't panic. Although the ladybugs are extremely annoying, they do not transmit any diseases and do no other damage.
