Clay drainage pipes are now very rarely installed, although they also have an advantage. If the drainage becomes clogged, you can simply replace individual pipes. This is not so easy with a drainage hose. When laying drainage pipes made of clay, however, there are a few things to consider.

Prepare to lay the drainage pipes

1. You should first mark the planned course of the drainage pipes with a spade. It is advisable to start directly at the drainage outlet.
2. After that, start digging the canal for drainage. Drainage pipes should be laid at least 60 cm deep so that they cannot be damaged by the effects of frost.
3. The channel should of course also have a gradient of about 1 cm per meter. You can check the slope with a spirit level.
4. You should remove loosened earth from the sewer with a shovel so that the Undergroundon which the drainage pipes will be laid is level and firm.

This is how clay drainage pipes are laid

1. You lay the drainage pipes all tightly together in the prepared canal. So that the individual clay pipes do not slip sideways, you can fix them with some earth.
2. When all of the drainage pipes are in the correct position, use the spade to cut thin sheets of earth from the side walls of the sewer. The earth plates should then fall onto the drainage pipes, obscuring them.
3. After that, fill the soil that you previously dug back into the drainage channel. Initially, a layer about 20 cm thick is sufficient. You then step on this layer of earth and fill the next layer of earth.
4. Then continue like this until the canal is completely closed again.
