General problems with the transmitters

  • The transmitters in the RC hobby are exposed to wind and weather and are often transported. This can quickly lead to mechanical defects. The antennas in particular can be kicked off. If you notice a sharp decrease in the range, you should obtain and install a replacement antenna for the Spektrum DX8. This is only screwed on.
  • If the usage time decreases, this indicates that the batteries are getting weaker. It could also be due to a defective power supply. Charge the batteries externally using a charger to test whether it is due to the batteries or the power supply unit.
  • In general, there is not much you can fix. See if you see any loose wires or solder joints that don't look good. Sometimes the firmware also has to be reloaded. Most of the problems are caused by the software.

Known defects with the Spektrum DX8

  • Generally there is a compatibility problem with the transmitter and some receivers. Various recipients are affected. You can send in the Spektrum DX8 so that the transmitter gets an update or you can only use DSMX receivers. If you use DSM2 receivers, you should not buy a new firmware, as this upgrade can lead to a problem. If you notice that the recipient is unresponsive for a few seconds, this is usually the problem. You cannot solve this on your own.
  • If you have the impression that your RC models are performing movements that you did not initiate, there could also be a defect in the transmitter, which can only be rectified in the factory. Turn on the system. Make sure that the throttle stick is down and that the flaps and the landing gear are at zero. Turn on the function menu and select the monitor. Make sure that the ailerons and rudders, all trims and sub-trims are at zero. Now move the throttle and elevator very slowly over the full width. Do not take hold of the stick, but carry out the movement by touching the edge of the control surface. There must be no deflections in the display of aileron and rudder. If you notice during the test that there are indications, send the system to the manufacturer.
