This is an excellent address for anyone who wants to read books in German online for free Project Gutenberg-DE. The site has been digitizing and publishing works since 1994, most of whose authors have died more than 70 years ago. The works are therefore free of copyright. Over 5500 novels, dramas, poems, short stories and non-fiction books by over 1100 authors are accessible on the site.
You can find an alphabet at the top of the home page. Click on the first letter of the last name of the author whose books you want to read, for example on "B" for Georg Büchner. A page appears with a picture of the author and biographical information as well as a list of his works. Books that you can read online are marked in blue. Click on the blue link (identical to the book title) and you will get to the text.
If you prefer to browse the online offer, you will find a list of recommendations from the operators, Marcel Reich-Ranicki's literary canon and works by Nobel Prize winners in literature. You can search by epoch or by genre.
Foreign-language authors such as Shakespeare, Flaubert or Dostojewski can be found in German translation at Project Gutenberg. If you love classics of German and foreign language origin, you've come to the right place.
The operators of the site scan book pages and convert them pictures into a text document in which errors creep in. You can support the project by sending digitized texts or by signing up gaga.net as a volunteer proofreader of the scanned works. Incidentally, the complete works are also available on a USB stick.

Read books with Kindle
You can find entire books on Amazon Kindle. You can download the eBooks on any device and read them on the go from your smartphone or tablet. You download the Kindle reader, which you can use to read the eBook you want. Many works are free when the copyrights have expired.
On Kindle you will find classics, fiction, non-fiction and specialist books and much more. If you select "Kindle Shop" in the drop-down menu when searching on Amazon, you can search for authors, titles and topics. If you want to browse, do not enter any words, just click on "Search" and on the left on "Kindle eBooks". Select the desired sub-items in the menu on the left in order to narrow down the search.
Of the almost one and a quarter million electronic books and magazines, over 300,000 are German-language books, the rest are mostly English-language. You can download the books to Kindle devices or to your computer with Windows 7 or higher.
at Bookrix read entire books by independent authors who publish on these sites. You can read the eBooks as an ePub. In contrast to PDF, this format allows the text to be adapted to the screen size and the format of the reader.
If you are looking for new writers, Bookrix is for you. However, you cannot always expect the quality that the big publishers offer you. In return, many books are free or very cheap.
