Measure your pulse on your wrist
One of the best places to take a pulse is on your wrist. The area is easy to get to without the person being examined having to undress, and the pulse rate is usually easy to feel here. But there are also other places where you can measure it.

How to measure on the wrist
- The pulse can be measured in two places on the wrist. This is once the thumb side of the wrist, where you can feel the radial artery. To feel, place the index and middle finger and possibly also the ring finger on the inner wrist on the side of the thumb until you feel the pulse station.
- The ulnar artery can be palpated on the little finger side. To measure, place the same fingers as above on the little finger side of the inner wrist. The ulnar pulse can usually be felt a little weaker than the radial pulse.
- You now have different options for counting: The pulse rate always relates to a minute, so if you want to be very precise you can count the beats for a whole minute. But you can also measure just half a minute and double the number of beats or count 15 seconds and quadruple the number.
Where you can still measure your pulse
Of the Pulse can be measured on other parts of the body than on the wrist.
- In the head area, it can be felt on the temple. You can also feel the pulse of the carotids, that is, the carotid arteries, on the sides of the neck under the jaw. Attention: NEVER feel the pulse here on both sides at the same time!
- There are also other places in the leg area: one is the popliteal artery in the hollow of the knee, which is best felt when the knee is bent. You can feel the pulse of the femoral artery in the groin and the dorsal artery on the back of the foot.
- In the arm area, there is also the brachial artery, which can be felt on the inside of the upper arm, and the axial artery in the armpit.
