Remove latex paint from the wall
Due to their special composition, latex paints are waterproof, which is why they are often used in damp rooms. However, the acidic and completely airtight latex paint is an ideal breeding ground for mold and will soon have to be laboriously removed again.
What you need:
- spirit
- Pickling agents
- Rag
- Root brush

- If you have problems with mold stains on a wall painted with latex paint, you must not cover it with new paint, gypsum plaster or even a cladding made of plasterboard. This is often recommended because latex paint is difficult to remove. However, this would not solve the mold problem.
- To remove thin layers of latex paint from the wall, you need to soak a rag in white spirit and rub it abundantly over a small section of the wall. Only alcohol can soften the waterproof latex paint.
- Wait 5 minutes and then rub the latex paint off the wall with the roughest possible brush. It takes some effort and a lot of time to get rid of an entire wall of this type of latex paint.
- Organic pickling agent from the hardware store dissolves latex paint even more effectively than alcohol. Since this agent is quite aggressive, you must wear gloves and respiratory protection and carefully follow the instructions on the package.
- Once you've softened the latex paint with the mordant, the best way to scrape it off the wall is with a spatula. Then dispose of the remnants of the paint and the pickling agent responsibly as hazardous waste.
- After removing the latex paint, ventilate the room well for several days until the last remaining alcohol or pickling agent has evaporated. Before repainting, you should find out about suitable colors. In case you have had problems with mold under the latex paint, you will have to walls pre-treat with special products.
