What you need:

  • Candle wick (available in the craft shop)
  • Old candles
  • Food can
  • cooking pot
  • Sieve
  • Heat-resistant form for the candle (e.g. B. Mustard jar, mason jar)
  • Shish kebab sticks
  • Pot holders
  • stove

Shape or draw new candles from old candles

  1. Tie the candle wick in the center of the kebab stick. Hang the chopstick with the wick over the glass. If the wick is too long, cut it so that it reaches the bottom of the glass.
  2. Align the wick so that it hangs down exactly in the middle of the glass.
  3. Rinse the can thoroughly. Put the old candle scraps in the tin.
  4. Place the tin in the saucepan and fill the pot with water until the tin is about halfway under water.
  5. Slowly heat the can with the tin on medium heat to melt the wax.
    Caution: Make sure that the water does not start to boil. If necessary, turn the stove down further.

  7. As soon as the wax has completely melted, take the tin out of the water bath and carefully pour the wax through the sieve into the glass with the wick. Caution: Only touch the can with a pot holder to avoid getting burned. It is best if someone else holds the sieve over the glass and you can grab the tin with both hands and then carefully pour the wax into the glass.
  8. As soon as the wax in the jar has completely set, you can cut the wick off at the top of the shish kebab stick. Your homemade candle is ready. Tip: You don't necessarily have to pour your candle into a glass. There are also a variety of ready-made shapes for candles in the craft store.

If you have a little more time available, you can also “draw” your candles. It will wax not poured into a glass or a mold, but you dip the wick in the liquid wax and pull it out again. After the wax has set on the wick, dip the wick into the wax again. So you can apply layer by layer and let your candle grow thicker and thicker.
