What do you earn as a retailer?
The wages earned are never enough. This is not only the case with retail merchants. However, whoever decides on this profession can usually find work in a wide variety of areas.

- If you are completing dual training, i.e. in-company training with vocational school lessons at the same time, you have the right to training allowance.
- This depends on the location of the company, the industry and the applicable collective bargaining agreements, provided that the company is subject to collective bargaining agreements. So fluctuations in earnings can be triggered by these factors.
- On average, a trainee in retail sales can expect a training allowance of 600 to 660 euros in the first year of training and 660 to 740 euros in the second year of training. In the 3rd Year one even earns 760 to 850 euros per month (as of 08/2013).
- In special cases, additional funding in the form of vocational training grants is possible. This must be applied for and is only approved in very specific cases of hardship.

Salary of the merchant in retail after the apprenticeship
- After completing his training, the retailer earns between 1,900 and 2,300 euros gross per month (as of 08/2013).
- That salary is again dependent on the same factors as in the training. It is also influenced by things like work experience, delegated responsibility and the area of responsibility that you are assigned by the employer.
- In addition to the monthly salary, it is possible - if not regulated by a collective agreement - to provide special benefits in the form of Vacation and Christmas bonuses as well as the payment of capital-building benefits with the employer himself to negotiate.
Retail salespeople are usually in constant contact with customers and should be responsible for advice and sales. Also common in some industries working hours (especially in supermarkets) are not for everyone. When choosing a company, you should not only pay attention to the earnings, but also to the remaining working conditions.
