Set Skype correctly

So that you can even get the Chat-History, you need to make sure that Skype is also saving the conversations.

View conversations

If you don't know if you wrote to the contact or just them contacts who you have actually written with, you can do so using Skype's "Conversations" function.

Find out the chat history on Skype

1. To view a chat history, you must first select a contact. To do this, either click on the person in your contact list or use the search function directly above if you have many contacts. As soon as you have selected a contact, the chat history appears in the right area. If you haven't written to the contact for a long time, the window is empty or White.
2. So that you can read previous conversations, you will find the option "Show older instant messages" at the bottom of the chat window. You can determine how many entries should be displayed. For example, you can choose between "Yesterday", "7 days", "3 months" or "1 year". Click on the period that you would like to display.
3. To change the time period, you need to scroll all the way up in the chat window. You will then have the same options as at the beginning.

Search the history

If you have written a lot with a contact, you can also easily search for specific keywords.

1. To do this, select the contact and the chat period as described above.
2. Then click on "Find" in the menu item "Conversation". Alternatively, you can also use the key combination CTRL + F.
3. A search field will appear in the chat window. Enter your term there and press the ENTER key.
4. Skype then searches the history for the word and highlights the first hit in color. If you want to display more hits, you can use the "Next" and "Previous" buttons.
