What you need:

  • A3 sheet
  • pencil
  • Scissors or cutter
  • Cutting mat
  • Cardboard

This is how you create stencils for murals

  1. First think of a suitable motif for your murals.
  2. Then take a DIN-A3 sheet and a pencil to hand and draw your motif neatly on the DIN-A3 sheet. Make sure that you only paint the outlines, as shading or the like cannot be displayed.
  3. In the next step you can use the cutting mat and the cutter to cut out everything that should later be seen as a picture on the wall.
  4. As soon as you have finished cutting out, you can add the cardboard and use the template you just cut to transfer your mural onto the cardboard.
  5. If you are sure that you are not making a mistake, you can of course also draw the template directly on the box and thus save steps 2 and 3.

If you want to use your stencils for a long time, you shouldn't make them yourself out of cardboard, but make them out of thin plastic.

Make oversized stencils for murals - this is how it works

  1. Draw the desired template again on a DIN A3 sheet.
  2. To be able to see it better later, you should either draw the template directly with a black felt-tip pen or at least trace the outlines with it.
  3. If a suitable scanner is available, please scan your picture and save it on a USB stick.
  4. In order to have the scanned mural printed out on DIN A0, for example, you must now use the Stick to a nearby copy shop and print out the image there in the appropriate size permit.
  5. Then it is cut out again, transferred to cardboard and cut out again - one of many oversized stencils that you have made yourself is ready.

Creating murals according to your own ideas is not difficult. Drawing the template usually takes the longest. You then have a picture that no one else has and thus set yourself apart from the standard stencils for wall pictures available in the hardware store. Have fun trying.
