A pirate flag is easy to make yourself

The classic accessory for a pirate room is a pirate flag, black, with a skull and crossbones. You can easily make this yourself as a wall decoration.

1. First, find all the materials together. You need a large black cloth and white fabric paint. You can also use glitter if you want. You also have a wooden stick ready as a flagpole.
2. Take the black cloth that forms the basis of your wall decoration for the pirate room and determine the desired size of the flag.
3. Sew the shawl on all sides so that a straight, clean edge with a hem is created. Since you will also want to hoist the flag later, you should sew loops through which the flagpole can be passed. Then sew these loops onto the left side of your initially black pirate flag.

5. Now take a brush and paint the skulls and bones with white textile paint. It looks very nice if you put a little glitter over the still wet paint. After the paint has dried, it will stick to the flag.
6. Trace the outlines and contours with a gray textile pen.
7. Now you can pull the pirate flag onto the wooden pole. To prevent it from slipping, you can fix the flag with small wood screws.
8. Then hang up the flag as a wall decoration in a suitable place in the pirate room.

Paint your wall decoration with acrylic paints

Acrylic paints have the advantage of being easy to work with, drying quickly and then becoming water-resistant. They also have enormous luminosity and are easy to mix. However, since the dried acrylic paints can no longer be removed, it is advisable to first sketch the wall decoration with a pencil.

1. First, think about what you want to draw as a wall decoration for the pirate room. Good ideas are a parrot, a sword, a pirate hat, an entire pirate ship or a steering wheel.
2. Draw the motifs for your wall decoration with a pencil. If in doubt, use templates from the Internet. But you can also find beautiful pirate motifs in children's books as a template to make your wall decoration yourself.
3. Now you start to color in the pencil drawing with the acrylic paints. Make sure that you always clean and dry the brush well before you pick up and paint on a new color.
4. Take an old plate and mix your colors until you like them.

• If you have an old fishing net, you can hang it on the wall as a wall decoration and put plastic fish, a message in a bottle or other marine animals in it.

• You may also be able to make a treasure map yourself. Take a large sheet of paper and first draw the tangled path to the imaginary treasure. Then hug the treasure map a little.
