Make bed plugs out of Styrodur

A garden is only really perfect with the right decoration. Set accents in your plantings with self-made Styrodur plugs, for example with a shell on the edge of the pond.

Styrodur is wonderfully suitable for making decorative elements of different sizes yourself. It is as light as Styrofoam, but its higher density makes it easier to process and more durable. Decoration made of Styrodur can remain in the bed all year round. Just make sure that the Styrodurform and the rod are firmly connected so that it cannot fly away in the wind. Using the following instructions for a shell-shaped bed plug, you can see how easy it can be to create your own garden decorations.

Preparatory work - the shell is taking shape

  1. Copy your template to the desired size and stick it on a sturdy cardboard that you use as a template.
  2. Now transfer the motif to the Styrodur board.
  3. Cut out the outline with a sharp knife.
  4. Cut wedge-shaped recesses in your motif according to the pattern by inserting the knife inwards at an angle to the right and left.
  5. Handicrafts with seniors for Easter

If you want to do handicrafts with seniors at Easter, you can make arrangements, eggs ...

  6. Smooth the outer contours of your mussel with the file and thoroughly remove any residue with a brush.
  7. Depending on the shape of your template, it may be a good idea to cut a small recess into which a small plant can later be placed.
  8. Drill a correspondingly large and deep hole where the metal rod will later be inserted, for example with a screwdriver or a thick knitting needle.
  9. Cut off ends about 50 centimeters long from your craft wire, wrap the wire in a spiral around a knitting needle and then shape the spirals into loose balls.
  10. Drill through your deadwood or driftwood pieces with the drill or the Dremel. These shouldn't be too big.

Your shell plug is almost ready

  1. Prime your shell plug with the copper paint and let everything dry well.
  2. Repeat the first step.
  3. With the gold color you can now set accents in the recesses and on the outside.
  4. When everything is dry, pour some two-part glue into the pre-drilled hole and insert the metal rod.
  5. Now alternately thread your prepared wire balls and pieces of wood onto the rod. Also fix the lower piece with a little glue so that it cannot slip off.
  6. Now you can place your bed plug in a suitable place in the garden.
  7. If you have made a hollow, fill in some soil to just below the edge and place a houseleek plant in it. Water the whole thing carefully with a flower syringe so that the earth is not washed out again. Complete.

You can easily create your favorite motifs as garden decorations from Styrodur. Make a family of cats, Hedgehog, Marmots, deer, mushrooms, chickens and much more. All you need for this are appropriate templates (from handicraft magazines or from the Internet), suitable colors and a little imagination.
