  • North is the most northwestern city in Germany And when you visit East Frisia, you shouldn't miss the Ludgerikirche. The sacred building is the largest church in East Frisia. The church, built around 1235, is located on the market square and its 80 meters length already impressively reflects the architecture of bygone eras.
  • What would East Frisia be without its pretty windmills? The largest Dutch windmill is in Hage in the Aurich district. The windmill is over 30 meters tall and is therefore at the top of the largest windmills of its kind in Germany.
  • Incidentally, a lighthouse is a landmark of East Frisia. It is located in Pilsum in the municipality of Krummhörn and the 12 meter high tower gained its fame through the Otto Waalkes film "Otto - Der Ausserfriesische". Krummhörn also offers the counterpart, because in Campen you can marvel at the largest lighthouse on the German North Sea coast, it holds the record at 65 meters.
  • East Frisia is therefore in one of the most attractive areas in Germany and it is definitely worth paying a visit to the region. It doesn't always have to be the islands, a trip across the flat country gives a wonderful impression of life in East Frisia. Be prepared, however, to have a chat here and there, because the East Frisians are a very friendly people who enjoy it when strangers are interested in their country.
