The Gilera Runner 50 SP is driven by a V-belt. This is of course subject to a certain amount of wear and tear. It is therefore necessary to change the drive belt after a few years. You can do this work yourself.

What you need:

  • 15 mm socket wrench
  • Locking tool
  • Gun
  • Torque wrench

Over time, the drive belt of the Gilera Runner 50 SP will also wear out. You can feel this by the fact that the belt slips when starting off. Even though you step on the gas, it moves Scooter not from the spot. In this case, it is essential to replace the drive belt.

Dismantle the drive belt on the Gilera Runner 50 SP

  1. In order to be able to work safely on your scooter, you should jack up the Gilera Runner 50 SP on the main stand on a firm surface.
  2. Then loosen the screws on the cover from the drive. To do this, you need a socket wrench with an attached ratchet.
  3. After you have removed the cover, the drive unit can be accessed. On the side of the engine you will then see a variator disk that you have to remove.
  4. If you don't have an impact wrench on hand, you'll need a locking tool that can be used to temporarily lock the drive.

  6. You can then unscrew the fastening screw with a 15 mm socket wrench. Then you can take off the outer half of the pulley.
  7. This gives you the opportunity to take the drive belt down. You can then also easily remove it from the rear variator disk.

How to assemble the new drive belt

  1. After you have obtained a suitable drive belt for your Gilera Runner 50 SP, you can reassemble it relatively easily.
  2. You first place it over the rear variator pulley and then onto the front drive pulley. There is usually a spacer between the two halves of the pulley, on which you first place the drive belt.
  3. Then of course you have to reassemble the second half of the pulley. Be careful not to pinch the drive belt. It should be able to move easily between the panes afterwards.
  4. You then have to retighten the fastening screw. It should be tightened as tightly as possible so that it does not come loose while driving.
  5. Then use a torque wrench to tighten the screw with a torque of 45 Nm.
  6. Finally, mount the cover. The repair is already done.

It takes about half an hour to change the drive belt on the Gilera Runner 50 SP.
