Dreads look cool and show an unconventional attitude towards life. Young people in particular love this look. Read here how you can make dreads with straight hair easily and with lots of fun.

Making dreads yourself is really not difficult. All you need is time, some friends around you, and good music. Of course, dreads with straight hair take some time to complete. Still, you will see how easy it is and how fun it is. It makes sense to ask a friend for help because hairdressers and professional providers are relatively expensive.

This is how you can create dreads with straight hair

  1. The hair should not be washed on the same day. Better a day in advance, as freshly washed, straight hair is often very fine. The cuticle lies close to the hair immediately after washing, which prevents an optimal dread result. It is ideal if you wash your hair a day or two beforehand. In this way you achieve that the cuticle of the hair is a little open and can therefore be felted more easily.
  2. Ask a friend for help, as it is almost impossible to do it alone. You need someone special to work on the back of the head. Be aware that you will need to plan at least two to three hours of working time. That is why music in the background puts you in a good mood.
  3. The hair is combed through one last time. Make a part and separate the section of hair from the center part to the ear. To do this, take the comb and draw a vertical line down to the ear from the highest point on the head. Secure the front hair with a clip. Now only the straight hair on the entire back of the head is open.
  4. Take the style comb and part the first line at the nape of the neck. You can of course also do this with one finger. It is only important that a fine strand of hair is free on the neck, the rest of the hair is attached to the head with a clip. Now you have the first hairline to start with. This should be about an inch thick.
  5. Felt thin dreadlocks yourself

Felt thin dreadlocks yourself. Dreads are best left by friends themselves ...

  6. Now take a fine strand, about one centimeter in diameter, and put a small blob of the dread wax on it. Distribute the wax in the straight hair until it is distributed in the entire strand.
  7. Now comes the real work. Hold the straight hair in one hand and use the other hand to comb the strand from bottom to top. This causes the hair to become matted. Repeat this process until you can see a small dread.
  8. Of course, it is not that stable at the beginning. However, the wax ensures that the dreads are then stabilized. In the nape of the neck, it can take a little longer for the desired effect to occur, as the hair there is particularly fine. But don't give up, you will see that it works.
  9. If the hair is matted enough, take the adjacent strand and proceed in the same way. Make sure to work your way up and down with the comb on the fine strand. You will see that it goes faster if you felt the dreads down from the hairline.
  10. When the complete row is now complete, cut off the next thin line with the comb or finger. Make sure the department is clean. Repeat the process and work your way up to the top of your head. If you have matted the entire back of your head and already have many successful dreads in front of you, it is now the turn of the front area of the hair.
  11. Start on one side and comb through the straight hair again. Now divide a fine line at the lower ear area. The rest of the hair is reattached to the head with the clip. Felt the individual strands of hair according to the same principle as you did on the back of your head. Work your way up to the top of your head and repeat the process on the other side as well.

Now you are done. Even if it may have taken a few hours, you will be amazed at how your straight hair turned into dreads. Give your hair a few more weeks to completely mattify and become perfect dreads. To do this, you should always work on a few strands with the wax.
