With a palm you can bring something exotic into your home. This is certainly why the green plants are so popular. If they have the right growing conditions, they are very long-lived plants. You can tell which palm grows in your area by the leaves.

1. Feather palms typically have pinnate leaf fronds

Feather palms can be recognized by their pinnate leaves. Some representatives of them are important crops for humans, such as coconut and date palm. The latter can even develop slowly from a core in the pot. Other common types are: mountain palm, kentia, betel, fishtail, bottle, earth palm and others. Mountain and Kentia palms even provide some shade in the room. Most species, however, require a great deal of light.

2. Palm fronds of a fan palm

The fronds of the fan palms look significantly different. They include the hemp palm, Lantania, dwarf, ray and umbrella palm as well as the Washingtonie. The hemp and dwarf palms love it a little cooler in winter. They shouldn't stand over 12 degrees. However, if you only have heated rooms, you should look after other species and always pay attention to high humidity.

3. Date palm - most often in a pot

Although the date palm can grow very large, it is the most common in our living spaces. They are very popular as robust and easy-care houseplants. They want to stand bright but without full sun. In winter they prefer it a little cooler, but they can also cope with heated rooms. Never let the soil dry out, then you will enjoy the beautiful pinnate leaves for a long time.

4. The Washingtonia

It is a fast-growing fan palm that likes to be outdoors in summer. The ball of the pot must never dry out. If the leaves turn yellow, the plant often lacks light. Even then, however, it quickly recovers. If you have one of these plants, it looks good as a specimen plant in the room. However, which type of palm grows best in your area depends very much on the light and temperature conditions.
